Lord Trimbakeshwar is one of the manifestation of Lord 'shiva'. This is one of the holy place on earth. Planet earth rotates from east to west direction. This directs the river flows from west to east. Holy places are the distinct places where river flows either from south to north or north to south direction. Trimbakeshwar is surrounded by mountains and has 2 rivers named as Ahilya and Godavari. These 2 rivers meets at Trimbakeshwar and infulences on this place be a sacred place. Lord Trimbakeshwar is the God who protects us from all destructive activites. He has 5 heads and they are facing towards different mountains surrounding Trimbakeshwar city. He has 3 eyes. The third eye is used to destroy the destructive things in the world.His vehicle is 'Nandi' (Bullock), He plays instrument called Damaru.He has 'trishul' in his hands and adorns the heads of dead people. He festoons cobra snake around his neck.He adorns (Ganga)river stream up on his head .He as well has moon on his for-head. Deity is worshipped by his sign rather than his actual image. This symbol is called as 'linga'. The construction of this temple commenced by Shrimant Balaji Bajirao aka Nanasahib Peshawe in 1755 and completed in 1786.There are three 'linga' of the size of a thumb and they are called as Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh - the creator, the preservator and the destroyer. These lingas are incarnated by nature and on top of Shiv linga stream of river falls naturally.Lord Trimbakeshwar is worshipped thrice a day. |
